Born and raised in Galt, CA, Kim graduated from Galt High School in 2011 and earned her BA in Communication Studies at Azusa Pacific University in 2015. Kim first began swimming at the age of 8 for her local rec team, the Galt Gators. She quickly fell in love with the sport and swam year round with a number of club teams as much as she could. Her path as an athlete was anything but linear as she was challenged with local club teams dissolving, and medical and financial issues that prevented her from swimming in college. After receiving her BA from APU, she got married, moved to Folsom and decided to give swimming one last shot by going to swim for Sacramento City College. Swimming under coaches Steve Hanson and Nolan Rogers was one of the best experiences she has had as an athlete and she would not be coaching today without taking this unconventional path.
Since then, she has coached for club, high school, rec and masters teams. Over the years she has found that she loves to work with high school athletes not only to prepare them for swimming, but also for adulthood.

She has been with the Sierra Marlins for 3 years now and is currently the Assistant Senior Coach, Senior Prep Head Coach, and Social Media Director. Her time with the Marlins has been such a fun adventure. Her proudest moments are found in coaching the athletes that start from barely making JOs to now swimming at meets such as Futures. She is also going into her sixth season at Oak Ridge High School and fourth season as Head Coach. Under her leadership, Oak Ridge has earned Frosh/Soph titles and Varsity runner-up titles at CIF Sections.
In addition to coaching, Kim is also a wedding and portrait photographer. If she’s not at a swim meet, she’s probably photographing a wedding. Kim loves to travel for any reason - swim, photography, or just vacations! Kim also still finds any way possible to get in the water and train and compete herself. She hopes that through coaching and the life she leads, she can help athletes shines on and off the pool deck.
