WHAT HAS BEEN THE MOST CHALLENGING YET REWARDING SET YOU'VE SWAM?
One of the most challenging weeks of training I’ve ever had was in October of my sophomore year, leading into a one day Superleague meet. It was a series of distance practices (though the other practices that week weren’t too easy either). On Tuesday, we swam two broken miles for the main set, one pulling and one at various paces. That Thursday, we swam 3 broken 1000s, each one broken into longer parts (ending with 4x250s). The next day, we swam 6 broken 500s, with the last one for time off the blocks.
The two most important things I took away from that week were the importance of teammateship and the confidence in my ability to tackle challenging practices and events. My teammates and I got so much out of the practices that week because we encouraged each other and pushed each other to stick to our goals. Because of this, we were able to work to the best of our abilities despite the exhaustion, and come out the other side better athletes.
I have been swimming competitively for almost 9 years, the last 5 with the Sierra Marlins. I am a dedicated and motivated swimmer who loves to both contribute to and be part of a positive, disciplined team. Outside of swimming, I am curious and creative, and I’m always working on some sort of project. I enjoy creating art of any medium, singing, running, working out, studying languages, learning guitar, math, and physics.
